GST Calculator (Add / Remove GST)
Compute GST on any amount. Add GST to a base price to get inclusive total, or remove GST from an inclusive price to extract the base. Supports all standard Indian GST slabs.
Methodology. Intra-state sale: GST splits into CGST (half) + SGST (half). Inter-state sale: single IGST. Standard Indian GST slabs: 0% (exempt essentials), 5% (common services, small restaurants), 12% (processed foods, business services), 18% (most services, electronics, appliances), 28% (luxury cars, tobacco, aerated drinks). Always verify the correct slab for your specific HSN/SAC code.
The two formulas
Adding GST: GST = base price × rate ÷ 100; total = base + GST.
Removing GST from an inclusive price: base = price × 100 ÷ (100 + rate); GST = price − base.
Worked examples
| Case | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Add 18% to ₹10,000 | 10,000 × 18% | GST ₹1,800, total ₹11,800 |
| Remove 18% from ₹11,800 | 11,800 × 100 ÷ 118 | Base ₹10,000, GST ₹1,800 |
| Remove 5% from ₹1,050 | 1,050 × 100 ÷ 105 | Base ₹1,000, GST ₹50 |
A common mistake is to remove GST by simply taking 18% off the inclusive price. On ₹11,800 that gives ₹2,124 instead of the correct ₹1,800.
Current GST slabs
Since the GST rate rationalisation of 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall into three main slabs: 5% for everyday essentials, 18% as the standard rate, and 40% for luxury and sin goods. Some items are exempt (0%), gold and jewellery carry 3%, and individual life and health insurance premiums are exempt. Always confirm the rate for a specific product or service by its HSN/SAC code.
CGST, SGST and IGST
Within a state, GST is split equally: 18% becomes 9% CGST + 9% SGST. On inter-state supplies the full 18% is charged as IGST. The total you pay is the same.
