HDFC Freedom Credit Card Review
The HDFC Freedom is an entry-level card for first-time and younger users. It earns 10 CashPoints per ₹200 at five partner brands and a low base rate elsewhere.
HDFC cut the base rate on 15 May 2026 — it now takes ₹200 rather than ₹150 to earn a CashPoint — and each CashPoint is worth ₹0.15, so the card’s value depends almost entirely on partner spending.
- Easy approval for first-time users (income from ₹12,000 a month)
- 10X CashPoints at BigBasket, BookMyShow, OYO, Swiggy and Uber
- Fee waived on ₹50,000 annual spend
- 500 CashPoints welcome bonus
- 1% fuel surcharge waiver
- CashPoints worth only ₹0.15
- Base rate cut to 1 per ₹200 from 15 May 2026
- Partner rewards capped at 2,500 CashPoints a month
- No points on fuel, rent, government, wallet and EMI
- No lounge access; 3.5% forex markup

Final verdict
An easy entry into credit for new users, but a weak rewards card after the May 2026 cut. Use it to build a credit history, then move to a better card once your score allows.
