Our score: 6.5 / 10

8,000 welcome points
₹2,000 fee

The RBL Bank Platinum Maxima is a mid-tier rewards card that earns accelerated points on dining, groceries, entertainment and international spends, with milestone bonuses for higher spenders.

The accelerated rate is capped at 1,000 points per billing cycle and the ₹2,000 fee has no spend-based waiver, so its value depends on reaching the milestones.

In short: A ₹2,000 rewards card with 10 points per ₹100 on dining, grocery, entertainment and international spends (up to 1,000 points a cycle), plus 10,000-point milestones at ₹2.5 lakh and ₹4 lakh a year. Good for steady spenders who will hit the milestones; otherwise the fee is hard to justify.

RBL does not publish a fixed rupee value per point; it depends on the redemption option in the RBL Rewards catalogue.

Worked example: Spend ₹35,000 a month (₹4.2 lakh a year), with ₹10,000 a month in the accelerated categories. Accelerated spends earn 1,000 points a month (exactly at the cap) and the other ₹25,000 earns 500 points. That is 18,000 points a year, plus both milestones (20,000), for 38,000 points in total. At an illustrative ₹0.25 per point — check the actual catalogue value — that is about ₹9,500 a year against the ₹2,000 fee, and you also qualify for lounge visits every quarter.

What earns nothing

Fuel and auto, railways, utilities, rent, wallet loads, insurance, education, government, quasi-cash, cash, Bills2Pay, contracted services, miscellaneous and EMI transactions earn no points.

Who this card is for

  • Good fit: people who spend ₹3–4 lakh a year on the card, with a good share on dining, groceries and entertainment, and who will collect both milestones.
  • Skip if: you spend less than ₹2.5 lakh a year or mainly on excluded categories — the fee then outweighs the rewards.

Alternatives worth comparing

Final verdict

A reasonable rewards card for steady mid-level spenders who will reach the ₹2.5 lakh and ₹4 lakh milestones. Below that, the non-waivable ₹2,000 fee, capped accelerated points and long exclusion list make it hard to beat a lifetime-free cashback card.
