Checked October 2026. Very few Indian cards now bundle streaming subscriptions, and those that do usually tie them to a first spend or a spend target. Each benefit above was checked against the issuer’s current terms. Other options we have not yet reviewed in full: the Swiggy ORNGE HDFC Bank card pays 5% cashback on Netflix, SonyLIV, Prime Video and JioHotstar (capped at ₹1,500 a cycle), BOBCARD Tiara offers an annual Amazon Prime or JioHotstar membership, and Equitas Selfe lets you pick two OTT memberships in the first 90 days. Axis MY Zone’s spend-based SonyLIV renewal ended on 1 April 2026; only the first-spend welcome subscription remains.
How to think about OTT rewards
A household with Netflix, a cricket-streaming plan, Prime and a music app typically spends ₹1,000–₹1,500 a month on subscriptions. Even at 5% back, that is only ₹600–₹900 a year, so OTT should be a tie-breaker, not the main reason to pick a card. The better value usually comes from cards that bundle a free subscription as a fee-waiver or milestone benefit.
Watch out for
- Recurring payment rules: under RBI’s e-mandate rules, auto-debits above ₹15,000 need an extra authentication each time; smaller subscriptions renew automatically once set up.
- Billing through app stores: subscriptions bought via Google Play or the App Store may be coded differently and miss category bonuses.
- Bundled plans with mobile or broadband bills may count as utilities, which some cards exclude or cap.
Keep control of subscriptions
Review standing instructions in your bank app every few months and cancel what you no longer watch — forgotten subscriptions cost far more than any reward. See auto-debit rules for cards.

FAQs
Do I earn rewards on subscriptions billed through Google Play?
Usually only the card’s base rate, because app-store billing is not coded as the streaming service’s category.
